My simple statement: a good songwriter is not a songwriter writing hits, but a songwriter writing evergreens (those special hits you still hear after 50 years, so to say)! About me: You can't judge a book by just looking at it's cover.......so feel free to get in touch with the contents of it! Here I am!

The songs here probably might not be my best songs (to my opinion), however they are the best songs with respect to my performing as a songwriter. Yes, as a songwriter you are a bit more critical to your own songs than the outside world (smile). The songs are partly mastered, partly non-mastered.

Although I'm an amateur songwriter, I'm able to think and act professionally as one can see at my achievements in the biography below.

As a songwriter (and a good songwriter should be music independent) I'm able to write songs for different music styles if necessary, however my roots are rock & roll.

I write my songs in English, German and Dutch.

BIOGRAPHY IS UNDERNEATH THE LYRICS.

Lyrics:

I'm A Hook ©henri smeets (song registered with Buma/Stemra)

Chorus:
I’m a hook, yeah yeah baby, I’m a hook, yeah yeah baby
I’m gonna catch your ear
It’s me you’re gonna hear
I’m a hook, yeah yeah baby, I’m a hook, yeah yeah baby
I’m the repeating part of the song
You’ll remember me for long

Verse:
You snap your fingers and tap your feet
To this melody with a rhythmic beat
It’s me that's gonna make this song a hit
And you’ll spend your savings to get it

Bridge:
You and me, we’re in love
You listen to me, you can’t get enough
I got into your ear
And I’ll stay there, my dear

You're A Hardworking Woman ©henri smeets (song registered with Buma/Stemra)

Chorus:
You are a hard working woman
You are a hard working woman
You are a hard working woman
Working all day

You are a hard working woman
You are a hard working woman
You are a hard working woman
That’s all I can say

Verses:
You are a mother and a you are a wife
That makes a busy part of your live
You’ve to work and do the household
You’re more worth than gold

You have to please your husband and kids
It gives you headaches and it really hurts
For yourself you’ve got no time left
It’s just kinda theft

Walking Along The Street Of Loneliness (alt. Walking Down The Street Of Loneliness) ©henri smeets (song registered with Buma/Stemra)

Verses:
Walking down the street of loneliness
There’s no one to meet, so I confess
I’m so lonely in the cold, without rest

At each side of the street there are houses in a row
I walk along them and I would like to know
Is there a house in which I could go

Bridge:
At the end of the street someone opens the door
I walk to that house and put a step on the floor
I was surrounded with warmth and stood in bright light
My heart was beating faster and I knew it was right

Verses:
Now I’ve found the right place to be
It’s just like surfin’ on the waves in the sea
Up and down it goes, I’m feeling free

I’m really glad that I walked down that lane
Being lonely so long drove me insane
Now I’ve got rid of my pain

I Got A Girl Named Gretsch ©henri smeets (song registered with Buma/Stemra)

Chorus:
I got a girl named
I got a girl named
I got a girl named
I got a girl named Gretsch
I got a girl named Gretsch

Verses:
She’s so cute and she’s so nice
If you like to get her, pay a high price
She has a great body: candy apple red
Six strings on a row and her arm makes me mad
Man!, she sounds good, has been made of the best wood

If you just get her, in your arms
Just feel like a king, longing for her charms
You don’t like to stop with playing her strings
Have no time left to do other things
You’ve got the best guitar, man! You will lead her!

If A Rose Is Knocking On Your Door ©henri smeets (song registered with Buma/Stemra)

If a rose is knockin’ on your door
Just let 'him' (it) in, it’s you I adore
I sent 'him' (it) to show you my love
And when it asks for water, give 'him' (it) plenty of

So that it’s able to grow
Like our love under the rainbow
That’s what you’ve got to know
So keep it darling, don’t let it go

I'm an amateur songwriter (if I would have the chance to go prof, I would love to do that) writing songs in Dutch, English and German with retro melody, but contemporary lyrics (a very high focus on social themes and not much sung about themes...I'm not mainstream, I'm a man of added value!). If I like to get somewhere I go for it, although my restricted means.
Although I'm an amateur music lover I worked together with film director Martin Koolhoven (sadly enough for an unfinished film), pop magazine founder and film documentary maker for national television Constant Meijers (for his book Kom Van Dat Dak Af). I got a German rockabillyband Heckenjecks succesfully into the very commercial Cologne (Germany) carnival which resulted in a record contract for them with EMI Records.
Advised American rockabillyband Al & The Black Cats for their first European tour. They also recorded my song White Cadillac on their debut album The Fabulous Sound Of on Rooby Records (subsidiary of MCA).

Me (Dutchman!) provided the German subtitles for the debut DVD by René Shuman & Angel-Eye (4 national hits).

I presented million selling band Matchbox as festival presenter.
Myself released a debut album (my songbook so to say) on a Swiss label with songs recorded in Berlin and Luxembourg. Album is available in Japan, Russia, USA, Canada, most countries of Western Europe. It's the first album by a non-blind artist worldwide with backcover in braille. Liner notes were written by drummer Bob Burgos (40 years as prof in music bizz and accompanied the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles to name just a few) from Matchbox fame. In the promotion were involved yesterdays celebrities like Kitty Houston (recorded her first record with Conway Twitty's Lonely Blue Boys in which her husband played and is close friend to Wanda Jackson (scoring a million seller and big hits in rock & roll, country and schlager and being ex-girlfriend of Elvis), Ronnie Haig (recorded at Chess Records, known from Chuck Berry which he had met there) and Roy Cost (recorded at famous studio of Bill Black (Elvis' double bass player) in 1964).

Previously I also wrote a 450 page book: Rock & Roll Rond De Wereld. Have been on television with this (RTL5) and on national radio (AVRO).
I'm writing reviews for a Dutch/Belgian rock & roll lifestyle magazine.

I even had a radioshow for several years at a local radiostation (got good reviews by Frits Pits at a radio deejay contest) and did over 90 interviews with live performances by guests from eight countries (partly they came extra from those countries: e.g. Burt Blanca (scoring platinum and gold records) came extra from France, my musical friend Rick Hardy: the true founder of Cliff Richard & The Shadows, resident at he legendary coffeebar The 2 I's, the birthplace of British rock & roll (what the Cavern Club was for beat), could be seen in the cultmovie Trainspotting and was the one who paved the way for the Beatles in Hamburg with his band The Jets (containing Tony Sheridan), came extra from London and Guiness Books Of Records winner Jack Favor came extra from Hamburg for my local (!) radioshow in the ultimate south). Also Patrick Ouchene, who was participant for Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 has been Henri's guest in his radioshow. Alvin Stardust (formerly known as Shane Fenton) recorded an exclusive interview for me.

I presented The Story Of Rick Hardy on stage with Rick himself and Brian Locking from Cliff Richard & The Shadows fame.

The Gretsch guitar company showed interest in my self penned song I Got A Girl Named Gretsch.

I wrote the sleeve notes for Bob Burgos' most recent album Destination Rockin'.

I'm member of Buma/Stemra, Palm and ISA (Int. Songwriter Ass.)
I've writen some 130 songs since 2002 (all registered with Buma/Stemra). I record my songs with (semi-)professional bands in Berlin and Luxembourg.
The songs here have been recorded in Luxembourg and Berlin.

You can't judge a book by just looking at it's cover...that also goes for me....so feel free to get in touch with the contents of it! Here I am!
